The 1LI Association Golf Club was set up after a very successfull second Light Infantry & Rifles Golf Day at the Shrewsbury Reunion in June 2013 which saw many of those taking part being from 1LI.
It is our hope that by setting up the club that it will help to bring together the battalion golfers and add an additional social element to the association over time. We will also seek to take part in various regimental/veterans golf days where possible, such as The Rifles Golf Day that takes place in Winchester each year where we are invited to enter a six man team (two teams if we have the numbers).
The association had initially appointed a Club Captain and Vice Captain for the first few years of it's operation, but it is now managed by a 1LI Association Golf Club Rep which is a position appointed by the 1LI Association Committee. It is currently free to sign up to the golf club and we very much hope that you will play an active part in growing it regardless of your golfing ability. Nelson "Nelly" Bassett
Memorial Trophy
This memorial trophy has been set up by the 1LI Association for our 1LI Golfers to compete for once a year, at a nominated Light Infantry golf event, in memory of Nelson "Nelly" Bassett RSM who passed away on November 13th 2016.
Eligibility
To be eligible to compete for the above trophy you must:
1. Have served in 1LI
2. Be a Full Member of the 1LI Association
3. Be a member of the 1LI Association Golf Club
We may also introduce a formal entry requirement for future competitions with a cut off date one week prior to the annual Golf Day in Shrewsbury, but we will update our golf members and this web page when that decision has been made.
The trophy will be presented at the Light Infantry & Rifles Golf Day in Shrewsbury each year, to the best scoring 1LI Golfer of the day.
The trophy will remain the property of the 1LI Association at all times, but the winner will get to look after it until the next designated competition when they must make it available to the 1LI Association Golf Club Representative.
An Honours Board will be maintained on this website page and it will be updated as soon as is possible after each event has taken place. Please let us know by e-mail if any names are not correct or correctly spelt. Winners can at their own expense purchase a smaller copy of the trophy with their name and the date that it was won engraved on it. Please e-mail the club captain or the 1LI Association as soon as possible for more details. We very much hope that this memorial trophy will encourage many more of our 1LI Golfers to dust of their clubs and to "have a go". If you have not played before then now is the time to start.

Light Infantry & Rifles Reunion Golf Day - Shrewsbury
June 21st 2024 @ 0900 Hrs Venue: Arscott Golf Club, Pontesbury, Shrewsbury SY5 0XP The golf day is open to all ex Light Infantry and Rifles. Meet at the clubhouse between 0830-0915hrs.
Start time will be 1000hrs and will start on hole's 1 and 10 if we get the numbers. Cost for the day will be £25, this will include your green fee, coffee and bacon bap and twos. On arrival report to admin desks in the bar and payment is cash only. Your score card will be issued and you will be informed of your tee time and your start tee. Rules and play for the day.

The Rifles Golf Day - Winchester
TBC October 2024 @ 0730hrs Venue: South Winchester Golf Club Romsey Road, Pitt, Winchester, Hampshire SO22 5QX. The 1LI Association will be hoping to place a 1LI team into the above event and should you wish to be in our team please contact the 1LI Association via e-mail ASAP. Timings for the day will be passed on to all 1LI team members.
