1LI Association Golf Club

Image description

The 1LI Association Golf Club was set up after a very successfull second Light Infantry & Rifles Golf Day at the Shrewsbury Reunion in June 2013 which saw many of those taking part being from 1LI.

It is our hope that by setting the club up that it will help to bring together the battalion golfers and add a different social element to the association over time that will also see it take part in various regimental competitions and golf days such as The Rifles Golf Day that took place in Winchester where we were invited to enter a six man team for the second year running.

The association has appointed a Club Captain and Vice Captain for the first two years, but it is hoped that once established that the golf members and 1LI Association Committee will in future hold a vote for both positions on either an annual or bi-annual basis.

It is currently free to sign up to the golf club and we very much hope that you will play an active part in growing it regardless off your golfing ability, if you wish to join please e-mail the club captain or vice captain on the links at the bottom of the page with your full name and current handicap if you have one.

Memorial Trophy

This memorial trophy has been set up for our 1LI Golfers to compete for once a year at a nominated Light Infantry golf event.

To be eligible to compete for the above trophy you must:

  1. Have served in 1LI
  2. Be a Full Member of the 1LI Association
  3. Be a member of the 1LI Association Golf Club

We may also introduce a formal entry requirement for future competitions with acut of date one week prior to the annual Golf Day in Shrewsbury, but we will update our golf mebers and this web page when that decision has been made.

At this stage we do not have a stand alone 1LI Golf Day, but every effort will be made to look into holding one in a centralised location should there be enough golfers taking part each year.

The trophy will be presented for the first time at the 2017 Light Infantry & Rifles Golf Day in Shrewsbury, to the best scoring 1LI Golfer.

The trophy will remain the property of the 1LI Association, but the winner will get to look after it until the next designated competition when they must make it available to the 1LI Association Golf Club Captain or Vice Captain.

An Honours Board will be maintained on this website page and winners can at their own expense purchase a smaller copy of the trophy, with their name and the date that it was won engraved on it, by contacting the club capt.

We very much hope that this memorial trophy will encourage many more of our 1LI Golfers to dust of their clubs and to "have a go".

13th September 2016

The Rifles Golf Day was held on Monday 12th September, based on personal full handicaps using the staple ford scoring system over 18 holes.
After a short lunch break a skills test.
Well done Mark Shepperd for coming third in skills.

The competition attendance was down across all units and veteran sections with only 7 teams entered.

A joint team of 1 and 3 LI entered and as with most teams entered we only managed a team of 5 with 6 scores needed.

The weather was perfect with various bare legs and shorts on show and no wet suits or flippers needed.

Warm, dry, light winds and great company.

1LI golf association were represented by Mark Sheppard and me.

The course was immaculately presented with very fast greens and well covered fairways.

The scores were very close with our LI vets team coming a creditable seventh with 179 points. (Sixth score based on average of the five in team)
The next teams scored as follows 180, 181 and 182.
Winning team scored 201.

Next years date should be published shortly.

Let's hope we can get a full 1LI golf association team to represent our unit.

Get your clubs out, get practising and I hope to see you in April at Taunton reunion.
